Who are we?

NixSys was founded in the summer of 2003 by Philip Paeps and Wouter Verhelst. Based in Mechelen, we provide consultancy and contracting services related to Open Source and Free Software — such as the GNU/Linux and FreeBSD operating systems.

Our 'holistic' approach of trying to find complete solutions, as opposed to restricting ourselves to parts of problems, gives our clients the convenience of a single point of contact and the assurance of consistent high-quality information technology throughout their business.

The people...

Philip and Wouter are both active members of the Open Source and Free Software communities taking part in the collaborative development of Free operating systems. Wouter is a Debian GNU/Linux developer while Philip contributes to the FreeBSD Project. Both are firm believers in Software Freedom and Open Standards.

Philip has enjoyed working on operating system kernels for longer than he can remember. His main interests are in real-time, embedded devices and network stacks. Since co-founding NixSys soon after finishing school in Copenhagen and Antwerp, Philip has been contracted out to companies such as Philips and Thomson to work on embedded devices.

Before co-founding NixSys, Wouter worked for Planet Internet, DHL, and Template. He has a degree in Business Information Technology from the Karel de Grote-Hogeschool in Antwerp.
